What is the local currency in Mexico and how can I exchange money?

The Mexican Peso (MXN) is the official currency of Mexico. However, U.S. dollars are widely accepted throughout Cabo—especially at resorts, restaurants, and tourist-focused areas.

You can use most major credit and debit cards in Cabo, and your credit card company will automatically handle currency conversion at the time of purchase.

Tips on Bringing and Using Money:

  • You can bring U.S. dollars for tipping resort staff and small incidental expenses—this is common and appreciated.

  • All Pueblo Bonito resorts have ATMs that dispense pesos if you prefer to carry local currency.

  • You can also exchange currency before your trip at your hometown bank or at the airport prior to departing for Mexico.

Note: Using pesos may be beneficial when shopping off-resort or with local vendors who may offer better pricing in local currency.
