Mexico has a few customs rules that catch travelers off guard. A little prep before you pack will keep your arrival in Cabo smooth.
Electronics
You’re generally permitted to bring one laptop or tablet and up to three cell phones, plus a limited number of other personal devices (like a camera or game console). If you travel with multiple laptops, tablets, or other high-value electronics, they may be subject to duty or confiscation at customs.
Vapes & E-Cigarettes
Bringing vapes and e-cigarettes into Mexico is strictly prohibited. Leave them at home — they can be confiscated at customs.
Cash
If you’re carrying $10,000 USD or more (cash, checks, or equivalents), you must declare it at customs. It’s not illegal to travel with that amount, but failing to declare it can result in fines or detention.
The Official List
For the complete, official list of what you can bring into Mexico, see the Mexican Consulate’s guidance.
For what to expect at the airport itself (immigration, the customs light, and avoiding timeshare agents), see Arrival & Departure Information for Cabo San Lucas International Airport (SJD).
